Summer in Winter?

Here on the east coast, the weather hasn't been short of amazing, unless you are a fan of snow. I, however, could live in warm weather year round. For me, it has kind of been the best of both worlds. I can dress in winter clothes, but without having to throw on a down coat everywhere I go. One of my favorite things to do is take my closet staples and make them work year round. Who doesn't love to buy something and really get your money's worth?! I wore this striped dress below all summer long and now I can use it as the perfect layering piece. The best part is that it's less than $20!! This type of mild weather also calls for dresses and OTK boots. Most winters, having bare legs at all is just not realistic. This has been the perfect winter for pulling off this look! You can be stylish and comfortable all at the same time ;)

Colorado in a Heartbeat

Luckily, this was not my first trip to Colorado. My husband and I were there for only a few short days for a wedding. He was a groomsman so we also had to attend the rehearsal dinner. It felt like a whirlwind trip, but we still had an amazing time! I've been dying to go to Vail and Aspen (perfect for fashion lovers I've heard!), but we were too limited with time so hopefully we can return some day. We made the best of the time we had. As soon as we left the airport in our little rental car, we headed to Boulder. I had been there before, but I loved it and wanted to go back. It's a college town, with great shopping and food (my two favorite things) and big, beautiful mountains standing erect behind us. It's just amazing to an east coast girl to see that ;). We grabbed lunch at Oak at Fourteenth and I highly recommend it! Who doesn't love a fancy grilled cheese and tomato soup on a cold day?!

It was time to head to our hotel and get ready for the rehearsal. Dinner was at the hotel, which was amazing because we were exhausted from traveling. I grabbed my favorite leather jacket and threw it over my new LBD. This dress is so comfortable and perfectly on trend with the lace-up in the front and less than $60! You can't beat that!

The next morning while Kevin was doing his duties as groomsman, I ordered room service and headed to the local Park Meadows mall. So amazing compared to the one in my hometown! I had to rush to get ready to catch the shuttle to the reception. My dress definitely took some time to put on haha, a little confusing, but I am still so completely in love with it. The dress is so flattering and oddly comfortable given the shape of it. I highly recommend this designer if you are looking for the perfect formal dress! The wedding was amazing, the food was delicious and the band was on point. So happy for our friends Carl and Meghan!!

On our last day, we wanted to be outdoors as much as possible. We ate at an adorable breakfast spot called NoNo's Cafe and headed to Red Rocks Park for the most beautiful hike! I had to share a couple pictures below, it was the perfect end to our brief trip.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

I'm obsessed with everything fur. Faux fur of course! I have yet to find that perfect faux fur coat this season (I actually did find one but it sold out in my size *tear*), but you can wear fur in other ways. One of my favorite winter items is this knit hat with the fur pom on top! I bought the matching fur stole with it from Banana Republic (linked below) at 40% off! My sweater is from Asos last year but I'll link a similar one below! I highly recommend getting one, it's so cozy and soft.

When I shot this look, I was waiting for my new Forever 21 OTK boots in the perfect gray color to go with it, but alas they did not come in time. I will link them below as well because they are only $45 and you can't pass them up!

Gray Days

Happy Friday loves!! As promised I will be styling one of my favorite scarves from last year, don't worry the exact same scarf is linked below, and hopefully you adore it as much as I do! Gray is one of my favorite colors for fall and winter, so this definitely won't be my last post sharing my love of this gorgeous, neutral color. For me, gray is the new black. It goes with everything and even just styling your outfit in all different shades creates a chic look. I wore an over-sized, white button down underneath my favorite gray sweater so I could wear them with leggings or skinny jeans and paired it with this beautiful color block scarf to add some pops of color.

I have a busy couple weeks coming up, so bare with me! Between Thanksgiving next week and a Colorado wedding the following week, I'm super stressed, but I can't wait to share all my adventures with you and the clothes that come with them ;)! If you follow along on my Instagram account, you might have seen my post with a black dress I bought for the wedding. It ended up not working out, but I did finally find the perfect dress and I'm so excited to for you all to see it! Lot's of fun posts ahead, stay tuned!!!

Winter Whites

I love wearing whites in the wintertime. Yes, I know it's not winter yet, but it will be here soon! The old saying, "no wearing whites after labor day," is a thing of the past. Bust out your favorite pair of white skinny jeans and throw on a pair of boots and a comfy sweater and you are good to go! How pretty is an all-white outfit against a snowy backdrop?! ;)

I went with my family to Longwood Gardens yesterday. If you are ever around Kennett Square, PA, it's a must! You don't even have to be a big flower and plant lover. It's a beautiful place to get in a great walk, look at amazing scenery and if you have kids, it's perfect for them to run around and tire themselves out! This sweater is from last year, but I linked an almost identical one. This scarf is a must-have and it's just under $13!! If you haven't bought these shoes yet, they are so comfortable and look nearly identical to the Isabel Marant ones, minus the ridiculous price tag..

Faux Fur Meets Faux Leather

One of my favorite towns to visit is Ardmore, part of the "mainline" outside Philadelphia, especially as we approach the holidays. It has great shopping, food and it's beautifully decorated. A nice little spot if you are ever passing through is Suburban Square, especially for my fellow fashionistas out there! I highly recommend ;)

I had been wanting to purchase a pair of faux leather leggings forever, so I finally pulled the plug and I absolutely love them. I wouldn't say they totally look like leather, but they are super comfortable and affordable! Paired with over the knee boots, they are absolutely adorable! Another item I've been wanting to buy is a faux fur coat, but I find that even though they are faux, they can still be pretty expensive! While I am on the lookout for that perfect coat, I have this amazing vest instead :)

My boots are sold out (they are Louis Et Cie from Nordstrom) but I linked a couple of my favorite, more affordable OTK boots below!

Family Pictures

I just received my family pictures from my amazingly talented photographer, Laurie Tearpock of Hello Sweetheart Photography, and I'm so excited to share! I haven't posted much about my family so I thought I would talk a little bit about them and then share some pointers on what to wear in your own family photos. I have two boys, Colton Scott (he's 4) and Henry Dean (he's 19 months). They are a handful, probably the cause of most my anxiety and seriously the loves of my life! My husband and I think we are going to stop at two kids, but I would be lying if I didn't say I wanted to try for a girl! Either way, they would be the best big brothers. They might get into a lot of trouble, trash the house and get into fights, but they have so much fun together and will hopefully be the best of friends as they get older. Let me just say, getting them to dress up and take pictures is extremely hard! Give yourself enough time to get ready before pictures and make sure everyone is well fed, including the parents. My husband was hangry by the end hehe. In any case, with children so young, don't expect them to cooperate most of the time. Just go with the flow, have fun and trust that your photographer will capture some great shots! Sometimes the best pictures are the ones that are candid!

I'm really happy with the outfits I put together for everyone. I figured I would give some of my tips to picking out the perfect family look:

1. Go through all your closets and see what possibilities you have with clothes you already own. If you are anything like me, your first instinct is to go out and buy something new, which I did, but it helps to throw stuff together to get an idea of color palette and what pieces are necessary to purchase. Most of us wore our favorite jeans and my husband wore a sweater from his closet because it was the perfect color that I wanted.

2. Color palette is probably most important. My recommendation would be to choose neutral colors. It's much easier than trying to be matchy matchy with everything. If you like color, do mostly neutrals and add pops of color here and there. I would also avoid too many patterns, it will just look busy, especially if you have a bigger family. Instead, opt for textures and layers. Usually your background will be colorful and pretty, so you want to compliment Mother Nature, not look out of place.

3. Figuring out when and where you want your photos is crucial to choosing an outfit. For my family shoot from a year ago, I wanted summer pictures at the beach. I wore a flowy top and skirt, the boys wore khaki or linen shorts. I kept the colors more white and pastel. Anything "chiffon-like" photographs really well on women. That "flowy" or "dreamy" look it creates make for beautiful pictures, especially at the beach. For this photo shoot, I wanted to do something totally different. I chose the fall and a pretty park with lots of fields and trees. Jeans photograph really well, so to make my life easier we all wore jeans. Boots are always great in fall shoots!

4. Last, but not least, wear something you are comfortable and confident in! This is not the time to try something new that you would never wear. You don't want to be taking pictures and constantly be worrying about your outfit. Always stay true to yourself and what you like :)

Without further ado, here are my family pictures with my outfit details linked below!
